One of A Kind by Design...
Design Process.
It all starts with an idea. Sometimes ours and sometimes yours. Many of our prospective clients come to us knowing exactly what they want while many others have only a partial concept: a color, a functional purpose or magazine clipping for instance. Oftentimes a client may be bewildered by too many choices in style, dimension or detail. So the question becomes: Where do we start? We can help and this is how we do it. We take the extra time to thoroughly interview our clients before, during and after the design process to define a vision of the finished product. The living space is carefully measured taking into account the existing style of the home and furnishings, light sources, usage patterns, appliance selection and other factors. We then begin with rough sketches and allow the client to make changes at any point to further define proportion and detail. Material and stain samples are next followed by scaled final drawings to be submitted for approval.
We take great pride in adding our own personal touch to ensure you are 100% satisfied with your completed project.
Construction
Creating any hand crafted project is much like a fine tailored suit or custom automobile. The difference between quality workmanship and mass production is in the integrity of the craftsman, his choice of tools and the extra time it takes to get that “added touch”. We use only the finest materials and time tested old-world joinery for strength and stability whenever possible. Material is carefully selected for grain pattern and color to ensure consistency. On any given job, we may use dovetails, bridle joints, half-laps, dadoes, dowels, tongue and groove, cope and stick, biscuit joints, pocket screws or splined tenons. This is one of our trademarks. Other joints that are not seen are “screwed, glued and tattooed” so to speak. We don’t skimp on anything that might weaken our creations over time. Finally everything is carefully sanded, shaped and inspected before finishing coats are applied.
We strive to make everything we create to last more than a lifetime for years of use and enjoyment.
Finishing Touches
No matter how well built something is, if it is not beautiful as well as functional then it is a waste of time, material and money. This part of our business is truly an art as well as a science that we are continually perfecting. We prefer to finish most of our casework with pre-catalyzed clear sealer and lacquer to allow the beauty of the natural wood and joinery to show through. However, we can also do solid colors, faux finishes and glazes, poly-coats, conversion varnishes, distressed finishes, hand-rubbed oils and stains or hand mixed traditional finishes like shellac, wax or milk paint. If requested, pieces can be fabricated un-finished for cost-savings or coated by others.
Installation
No Job is complete until it is installed properly. This is a downfall for most retail and even some custom shops. We have years of experience in other building trades so we know that the field is an uncontrolled environment unlike our shop. Murphy’s Law applies so we do our best to ensure that personal belongings and the room itself are protected from damage as much as possible. Also at this point, the final check should be forthcoming and we like to get paid as much as the next person. Careful preparation during the design process limits mistakes because we hate “call-backs” as much as you do, unless you call us back for dinner and conversation when the job is complete.
Pricing
Because we are a custom shop, no two projects are alike just as no two customers are alike. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the complexity of work, material selection, time frame and other factors. Final price cannot be given until after initial consultation and design however, we can do a “ballpark” estimate based on size and standard features. We do our very best to provide as much value for the money as possible and often we will suggest ways in which a job can be brought within your personal price range while maintaining quality and appearance. Our operation is kept small to reduce overhead as much as possible and we accept all major credit cards. Why Choose Us?

We want to make your wooden dreams come true.
